My design interests include physical user interfaces, consumer electronics and user interaction. I am interested in discursive, tongue-in-cheek and semiotic approaches to consumer electronic design. I like the space of non-standardized and I like the idea of challenging consumer electronics. I want to do work that pushes beyond a one-step/ two-step interface to get somethingt to work.
Currently, I am researching white noise machines.
Prior to RISD, I received a BA in Cultural Anthropology and Sociology where I developed an interest in a field called Science and Technology Studies (STS) -- I wrote my Honors Thesis on the intersection between embodiment and artificial intelligence ( click here). I wrote an ethnography on the use of touch screens and UX “button” elements used by people over the age of 80. My studies in cultural anthropology and sociology informed my decision to study industrial design.
